Vacant Acreage and Rural Asset Verification: Following the major $290,000 heavy machinery recovery on the county perimeter earlier in the week, rural police detachments are continuing to advise property owners across #Cavan and #NorthKawartha to implement enhanced gating and tracking methods on unmonitored land blocks or post-incident sites, citing an increase in transient staging activity.
/
#PRHC President and CEO Departing for Toronto: Dr. Lynn Mikula, the president and CEO of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC), is leaving the organization in October. She has accepted the same role at Sinai Health in Toronto. Mikula originally joined PRHC in 2011 as a staff general surgeon and served in multiple leadership positions, including chief of staff and executive lead during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her transition will occur over the summer and fall.

#FlemingCollege Receives $56.2M Provincial Boost: Fleming College will receive $56.2 million from the Ontario provincial government. Announced at the Sutherland Campus by Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith and interim president Theresa Knott, the operational funding is part of a broader $6.4-billion provincial post-secondary commitment. The boost arrives at a critical time; due to federal international student visa caps causing declining enrollments, the college has had to cut 50 programs over the past three years and decrease salaries by over $10 million

#Peterborough City Council Set to Approve New Community Planning and Permit (CPP) Bylaw: Peterborough City Council's general committee is preparing to grant preliminary approval to a new city-wide CPP bylaw. Replacing the older, comprehensive zoning bylaw, this tool establishes updated standards for building heights, land use, setbacks, and parking requirements. The bylaw is designed to reduce construction barriers for "missing middle housing" and speed up development timelines. It also updates cash-in-lieu formulas for affordable housing developments to $450–$500 per additional square meter of floor area rather than a flat per-unit fee

National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrated at Nicholls Oval: Presented by the First Peoples House of Learning, an early celebration was held at #NichollsOval featuring drumming, traditional dancing, Indigenous vendors, a sacred fire, and a strawberry ceremony

The 13th annual Paint A Plow program has wrapped up for the 2026 season, with decorated snowplows now on display at Peterborough County's #Douro Depot. The program provided students from five local schools the opportunity to transform the county's snowplow fleet into moving works of art. These colourful creations will remain on display for residents to view before heading into service to clear and brighten regional roads this winter.

A large shoreline fire in the Dalhaven Road area near Ennismore broke out Saturday afternoon, sending a massive plume of thick black smoke over #ChemongLake. The blaze quickly drew the attention of local residents and boaters, with dark smoke visible from a considerable distance across the water and prompting widespread discussion on community social media pages.

The #PeterboroughHumaneSociety hosted its annual Pet Fest, a community event featuring animal-focused activities, vendor booths, demonstrations, and pet adoption opportunities. Designed to celebrate the bond between people and their pets, the family-friendly event raises awareness about the society's regional services. It also serves as a fundraiser to support local animal care, shelter operations, and community programs.
/
A new, permanent Veterans Crosswalk featuring a distinctive red design and military-themed imagery was officially unveiled in downtown Lakefield during a special morning ceremony. Spearheaded by the #Lakefield Legion and community partners, the project serves as a lasting tribute to the service and sacrifices of Canada's military personnel. The unveiling brought together community members, veterans, and officials to celebrate and ensure that the contributions of those who served continue to be recognized by future generations.
/
#Peterborough residents gathered outside the former Carnegie Avenue fire station to protest the city's plan to use the building as a winter shelter for the 2026-27 season. Operating under the slogan "Right Support – Wrong Location," organizers clarified that they support helping those experiencing homelessness but argue the site is too far from support services and inappropriately located across from Riverview Park and Zoo. To push for a more transparent and strategically located alternative, the group has launched a petition urging city council to reconsider the location and evaluate alternative sites.

The Township of #NorthKawartha is seeking public assistance after two flower baskets were stolen from the Burleigh Street bridge at the south entrance to Apsley. The baskets disappeared between the late afternoon of June 17 and the morning of June 18, and a search of the surrounding area by township staff yielded no results. Mayor Carolyn Amyotte expressed disappointment over the theft of the seasonal displays, which serve to beautify the community gateway, and urges anyone with information to contact the Township.

Escape to the Kawarthas: Why Life is Better on Chemong Lake (and Your Dream Home at 563 Dalhaven Rd)

There is a moment that happens when you drive north into the Kawarthas from the GTA. The traffic thins out, the air smells a little sweeter, and your shoulders naturally drop a few inches.

For many, Ennismore, Ontario, isn't just a dot on a map—it’s the ultimate escape. Nestled between lakes and rolling countryside, it offers that rare blend of cottage-country serenity and real-world convenience. And right now, there is a unique opportunity to own a slice of this paradise.

If you have been dreaming of waterfront living without sacrificing modern luxury, let me introduce you to 563 Dalhaven Rd.

Why Ennismore and Chemong Lake?

Before we talk about the house, we have to talk about the water. Chemong Lake is part of the Tri-Lakes system and the iconic Trent-Severn Waterway. Living here means:

  • Endless Boating: You aren't landlocked. You can boat into Buckhorn, Pigeon Lake, or navigate the locks all the way out to the ocean if you really wanted to!

  • Four-Season Recreation: From trophy bass and walleye fishing in the summer to snowmobiling and ice fishing in the winter, the lake is alive year-round.

  • The Best of Both Worlds: Ennismore offers a tight-knit community feel, but you are only minutes away from Bridgenorth for groceries and the LCBO, and a short drive to Peterborough for hospitals, Costco, and fine dining.

Spotlight on 563 Dalhaven Rd: A Masterclass in Craftsmanship

Properties on the water often force you to choose: do you want a great view with an old, drafty cabin, or a modern home with no soul?

563 Dalhaven Rd requires no compromise.

This five-year-old home was lovingly designed and crafted with an obsession for detail. It is a modern sanctuary built to maximize the beauty of Chemong Lake while ensuring absolute comfort inside.

1. Designed for the View

As soon as you step onto the open-concept main floor, you are greeted by sleek modern lines and an abundance of natural light. The layout was specifically engineered to accentuate the waterfront views. Whether you are prepping dinner on the large kitchen island or relaxing in the living area, the lake is your backdrop.

2. The Primary Retreat

The primary bedroom is light, airy, and positioned to overlook the water—imagine waking up to that view every morning. It features a spacious walk-in closet and a gorgeous 4-piece ensuite with a soaker tub, perfect for unwinding after a day on the boat.

3. "Invisible" Luxury & Comfort

Here is where this listing separates itself from the competition. The things you can’t see are just as impressive as the things you can. This home is built for longevity and peace of mind:

  • Climate Control: In-floor radiant natural gas heat (with zone control) keeps your toes warm in winter, while a heat pump provides A/C for those humid August nights.

  • Soundproofing: Every room has been soundproofed for ultimate privacy.

  • Electrical Overkill: In a display of incredible quality, each plug has its own breaker.

  • Reliability: An easily connected generator ensures you are never left in the dark during a storm.

Your Outdoor Oasis

The exterior of 563 Dalhaven was designed for maximum enjoyment and minimum maintenance. You didn't move to the lake to spend all weekend mowing the lawn.

  • Entertaining Ready: A welcoming rear patio with sliding door entry connects the indoors to the outdoors seamlessly. There is a gazebo for hosting dinners and a shed for storing your water toys.

  • The Water’s Edge: Walk down the landscaped yard to the armour stone entry and your private dock. This is where your summer memories will be made.

  • Curb Appeal: A paved driveway and thoughtful use of natural trees create a private, welcoming entrance.

The Verdict

Located on a private road in a quiet area, this home offers the retreat you’ve been looking for. It is quality over quantity, luxury without pretension, and nature right at your doorstep.

563 Dalhaven Rd isn't just a house; it’s the lake lifestyle perfected.

Property at a Glance:

  • Bedrooms: 3

  • Bathrooms: 2 (Including Ensuite)

  • Heat: In-floor Radiant Gas + Heat Pump

  • Waterfront: Chemong Lake (Armour stone + Dock)

  • Location: Ennismore (Minutes to Bridgenorth/Peterborough)

My first real estate sale happened in 1998, Clonakilty Line Farm in Ennismore

My first real estate deal came quickly after I obtained my real estate license. I thought this business would be easy, but I was mistaken. This business will chew you up and spit you out. I found that out the hard way. Yes, my first deal came quickly, but subsequent deals proved more challenging. Many new agents find initial success but struggle to close additional deals. This can lead to being hungry and broke quickly.

While the initial deal came quickly, subsequent transactions required more effort and persistence. I learned that success in real estate often involves weathering challenges and continuously improving one's skills to meet the evolving needs of the market and clients. This foundational experience laid the groundwork for my continued growth and development as a real estate professional.

I remember my very first deal clearly and have even found a photo to go with it! My first deal was this farm property on Clonakilty Line. 98.45 acres and listed for $159,900. It took 15 days to sell, and I was told by a local farmer that I was out of my mind to list this property at such a high price. We sold the property at $150,000 on September 22, 1998

This listing was one of the first to be added to the brand-new computerized MLS system when the transition was underway from the printed bi-weekly MLS book to digital. To get pictures, we still used a film camera, took one outdoor picture, had it developed, and then scanned it in by the front desk of the real estate brokerage. This early experience in the digital transition of the real estate industry taught me valuable lessons about adapting to new technologies and processes.

The sales copy read like this:

EXCELLENT CASH CROP FARM, HANDY LOCATION, VIEW OVERLOOKING CHEMONG LAKE, OLDER 3 BEDROOM ONE AND A HALF STOREY FRAME HOME, DRIVING SHED. CROP IS 48 ACRES MIXED HAY, 35 ACRES CORN, 10+ ACRES WHEAT. HOUSE IS TENANT OCCUPIED, 24 HOUR NOTICE PLEASE. SEVERENCE APPLIED FOR FROM 80 ACRE FARM TO THE WEST, 2ND FARM MAY ALSO BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE. CONSIDERATION MAY BE GIVEN TO VENDOR TAKE BACK. VPIS REQUIRED FOR ALL OFFERS. OFFERS CONDITIONAL UPON COMPLETION OF SEVERANCE.

Wow am I getting old!
